The painting depicts my childhood friend, Maria, who is originally from Ukraine. Her home in Kyiv was struck by the first Russian bombing of the city. The bomb hit the very floor where Maria was, resulting in the complete destruction of her apartment and belongings. However, she was spared, as she had left in haste following a call from her mother feeling unwell just hours before the attack.
